Going With The Flow March 2020, class comments cont.
"Bonjour ma chere Jane,
Thank you for this wonderful heart felt letter. Yes indeed this crisis confirms how connected we all are , all over this planet really . Sometimes we need this kind of situation to make us see it plainly .
I am attaching a wonderful letter written by a gentleman from Tchad, Africa. ( it has been googled translated from French and it is a bit awkward at times but you’ll get the drift ) .
His name is Moustapha Dahleb. Hoping you will all appreciate his depth and his optimism really. My love to you and everyone out there -Evelyne
Moustapha Dahleb the most beautiful Chadian pen, wrote:
HUMANITY SHAKENED AND SOCIETY COLLAPSED BY A SMALL MACHINE.
A small microscopic thing called coronavirus is upsetting the planet. Something invisible has come to make its law. He questions everything and upsets the established order. Everything is put back in place, otherwise, differently.
What the great Western powers could not get in Syria, Libya, Yemen, ... this little thing got it (cease-fire, truce ..
What this Algerian army could not obtain, this small thing obtained (the Hirak ended).
What this political opponent could not obtain, this little thing obtained (postponement of the electoral deadlines ..
What companies could not obtain, this little thing obtained (tax rebate, exemptions, zero-rate credits, investment funds, fall in the prices of strategic raw materials. ..
What this yellow vest and the unions could not obtain, this little thing obtained (price drop at the pump, reinforced social protection ...
Suddenly, we observe in the Western world the fuel price has dropped, the pollution has dropped, people have started having time, so much time that they don't even know what to do with it. Parents get to know their children, children learn to stay with their families, work is no longer a priority, travel and leisure are no longer the norm for a successful life.
Suddenly, in silence, we go within ourselves and understand the value of the words solidarity and vulnerability.
Suddenly we realize that we are all on the same boat, rich and poor. We realize that we had robbed the store shelves together and together find that the hospitals are full and that money doesn't matter. That we all have the same human identity in the face of the coronavirus.
We realize that in garages, high-end cars are stopped just because no one can get out.
Only a few days were enough for the universe to establish social equality which was impossible to imagine.
Fear has invaded everyone. “She” changed sides. She left the poors to join and invade the riches and powerful. She reminded them of their humanity and revealed their humanism to them.
May this serve to realize the vulnerability of human beings who seek to live on the planet Mars and who believe they are strong enough to clone human beings in order to hope to live forever.
May this serve to realize the limit of human intelligence in the face of the force of heaven.
It only took a few days for certainty to become uncertainty, for strength to become weakness, for power to become solidarity and concerted action.
It only took a few days for Africa to become a secure continent. Let the dream become a lie.
It only took a few days for humanity to realize that it is nothing but breath and dust.
Who are we ? What are we worth? What can we do about this coronavirus?
Let us face the facts while waiting for providence.
Let us question our "humanity" in this "globality" tested by the coronavirus.
Let us stay at home and meditate on this pandemic.
Let us love each other while we are alive! "
"Beautiful Golden Jane,
You are a fearless leader and an inspiration to so many of us. In your teaching, you always inspire your students to check in with ourselves, to relax, and to be flexible in our minds as well as our bodies. Most of all, each time I leave your camp, I take with me your words, reminding me to breathe deeply and “let it go everywhere.” When I’m trying to decompress, you are there guiding me. As I am sitting her now, safe in my well stocked home, I’m not only counting my blessings but trying to let my breath feel free and my gratitude go everywhere, including to you and all of your dear students (our friends). It’s amazing to look up at the bluer skies, drive on the empty streets and notice that the earth is more in charge now. Though it’s sometimes hard to not worry or feel scared, I’m glad to have a break from the hustle and look forward to the day when this passes and we will practice Tai Chi together again. Until then, I’ll keep practicing more on my own, as the Tung Masters have always encouraged. I hope everyone stays safe, healthy and calm. God bless planet earth and everyone on it. I love you, Jane. "Thanks so much for sending out your word, Jane, and fellow Tai Chi dancers: it matters!Though it has been some time since we last convened in the gymnasium to commence a slow set, I still feel the rhythms and poise from this ancient practice informing and warming me today, body and mind, as I struggle to find my place in a world placed on lockdown! Many thanks, Jane, for tendering and rendering this profound art in a way we individual-minded westerners can get and grok! Thank you for your unassailable humor, your shapeshifting demonstrations and your tireless dedication to teaching the art. I have felt so warmly received in this community and trust that our solidarity and fellowship continues even now, though we shelter apart from one another, and that we will salute the ancestors together some day soon! With utmost appreciation and regard,And missing you all,And doing fine--Kyle"
"Thank you Jane for your uplifting words. I do indeed miss our classes and my tai chi family. This current situation has inspired me to up my solo practice and I am enjoying the experience.I have found a sweet spot in a redwood glade by the creek to practice. It has become a sanctuary.Until we meet again.Blessings and Aloha,
Sandy"
"All true. Dispersed and coming back together like breathing. All is changing. How magical! Moving with humbleness, and non attachment knowing the return is sure to come. Patience with an open heart. Tony "
"I want to let you know how much your words inspired me. I want to let you know how much I miss your classes and the presence of my Tai Chi friends. But I felt the community in your words. Thank you. Love, Kate"
"So very good to hear from you. As the proverb says, in the Chinese character for disaster is embedded opportunity. You are welcomed to pass this message onward. Stay well and hope to see you soon!-Susan"
"We in Petaluma are continuing our outdoor group practice. Outdoor exercise is allowed under the lockdown rules as long as we maintain the 6 foot social distance. There are only 5 of us, so more are welcome to join!-Genie"
"Thank you Jane for your words and insight. As my practice is mainly a solo one, I will continue doing it knowing that the connection with the universe is a deep one. I will be looking forward to seeing you again. In the meantime my heart remains open and vulnerable to sorrows, joys and above all gratitude. Prayers are with all of us, humankind in general and in particular to my Italian family and friends that live in the hardest hit zone. I am learning from them what it means being resilient in face of so many adversities. Hopefully our communities will not have to face such a tragedy. With much love and gratitude.-Shanti"
"Thanks for your mail. We, the whole world are in the same boat. And I stay at home. I am already close to go grazy, even I know how to amuse myself. And we do not know.........how long time this will be going on..................Jane take good care of yourself. all the best. Kirsten(in Denmark)"
"Thank you for your beautiful letter! Bente and I both appreciated it very much and will miss seeing you all in June. Hopefully this time will pass quickly and we do so look forward to seeing you all again soon. Until then be well, stay safe and wrap yourself in the warmth of our appreciation and affection!Bente and Peter"
"Thank you for this, Jane. Warms my heart to read your words. I practiced the set in my head while going to sleep and felt some anxiety melt away. -Erin
"
"Really appreciate what you wrote. Of course your and my relationship has been at a physical distance since about 1987. Testimony to the resiliency of the bonds made through our practice together beginning in 1980.And as your local family community will learn when you see each other again, it is really special after being away from each other for a while. Back to the intensity and excitement of the honeymoon, only better because you already have an idea how good it's been, and that it's about to be better.
So now that this time of the world has enforced isolation, I prepare for spring and planting. Not alone; heaven is above, earth below, and, my body is free to function, and thereby be completed.
Emilio always told me to should spend more time with the I Ching. I can feel him smiling, towards all of us, and spring.
Begin -Warren"
"I very much miss flowing together in our group sea of chi and yet I do believe in our virtual sea. I have found that not coming to class has raised the quality of my personal practice, which was too dependent on the group presence. I practice off and on each day now, sometimes in front of a mirror, often guided and corrected by the voice of my -inner Jane-.
You are not just a friend and teacher, Jane, but a spiritual guide for me. I will continue to honor this by paying you monthly, whether or not I can come to class. I hope that by June Camp or before the Corona Virus will have flattened and we will all be able to be together again.
Best love, Delia"
"Hi Jane, I have read your go with the flow letter many times, your words are as usual, Calming and supportive, In this unprecedented lapse in gathering with the class, I still feel deeply connected to you, and our entire broad family of classmates. I have always said that progress is behind us, And as this new current event unfolds, I realize all of our intuitions told us to head towards this way of living, and, with your steady guidance, we have studied an ancient tradition, That we now find will help us survive, and lead us into the future, It is in the foundation of tai chi and in the support of our community, That I find hope, Thanks to all for being part of this connected group of gentle souls, I guess it is up to us to nurture our world back into the future, Hope to see you all as soon as possible,Love. Mark M"
"Thank you so much for your message of Flow! You brought tears to my eyes and warmth to my heart. I feel you all with me, and I am constantly moving in my Tai Chi way.Being reminded of our connection charges my batteries, and I will do my best to share that positivity with those I encounter (though it has been very hard for me with my coworkers lately).Breathing and relaxing, Stacey"
